RCR 80V BMS Update Guide

This guide explains how to update the Battery Management System (BMS) firmware on the RCR 80V battery.


Important Notes (Read First)

  • Current BMS firmware version: v1.6

  • The battery case and bike frame are metal, which can interfere with Bluetooth

  • You will need to hold your phone very close to the battery for the BMS to appear


What You’ll Need

  • RCR 80V battery 

  • A phone or tablet with Bluetooth

  • Superpower BMS app

Step-by-Step BMS Firmware Update

Step 1: Install the Superpower BMS App

  1. Download and install the SuperpowerBMS app using the links above.

  2. Enable Bluetooth on your device.


Step 2: Prepare the Battery

  1. Hold your phone very close to the battery case.

    1. Tip: Because the battery case is metal, Bluetooth range is limited.


Step 3: Scan for the BMS

  1. Open the SuperpowerBMS app.

  2. Begin scanning for devices.


Step 4: Select the Correct Device

  • Look for a device named:
    KYS-xxxxxx-xxxxxx

  • Select this device to connect. Toggle the device on/off switch a couple of times


Step 5: Check Your Current Firmware

  • Once you are in the main BMS screen, tap the Info tab at the bottom of the screen\

  • Note your:

    • Firmware Version
    • Hardware Version

Step 6: Enter the password

  1. Press the firmware version

  2. Enter the password when prompted

    1. For IOS: Reach out to support

    2. For Android: Reach out to support


Step 7: Select The Hardware Version

  1. In the search bar at the top, type in "onyx" and press search

  2. Select the correct firmware based on your hardware version:

    1. For Hardware Version 1.0 Select: ONYXR80102125_v1.6

    2. For Hardware Version 2.0 Select: ONYXR80102125_H2.0_v1.6

  3. After selecting the correct hardware, the update will begin

    1. Do not close the app or your device during this process

    2. Once the update finishes, close the app.

  4. Power the bike off.

  5. Power the bike back on.


Known Issue – Wrong Hardware Version

If the update does not begin, you have selected the wrong hardware version, If this happens go back to step 6, or double check the password is entered per the correct device you are using.
